Major Stephen Datong, abducted by bandits from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State and reported dead, is still alive, according to a family source.
Late Tuesday evening, reports went rife that Mr Datong whose abductors demanded N200million as ransom was found dead hours after the attack which left two military personnel dead.
But quoting a family source, the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) said the abductee was still alive as at when the report of his death was trending online.
“Every call they (bandits) make, they give Datong the phone to talk to his self-appointed negotiator, just so that we have a proof of life,” the anonymous source explained Wednesday morning. “He is alive. This much I can confirm. As of 10pm on Tuesday, he was still alive — and this was hours after the circulation of reports of his death.”
