Kukah speaks on reported SSS invitation

Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah has described as false reports that he was being summoned by the State Security Service (SSS).

Media reports at the weekend say the fierce cleric was invited to appear before the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS) which has a culture of intimidating government critics.

The summon was said to be related to Mr Kukah’s latest criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari whom he accused of treating banditry ravaging Northern Nigeria with kid gloves.

The report gained momentum after the Youth Wing of the Christians Association of Nigeria threatened to mobilise Christian youths across the nation to accompany the Bishop to the DSS Headquarters in Abu

But reacting to the report, Christopher Omotosho, the cleric’s spokesman said his principal was yet to be invited.

“The news that the Bishop was summoned for questioning by the DSS regarding his Christmas Message cannot be true because the Bishop is yet to receive either call or mail from the DSS,” Punch Newspapers quoted Mr Omotosho as saying.
