Kogi assembly removes deputy gov, guber running mate takes over

The Kogi State House of Assembly has impeached Simon Achuba, as deputy governor of the state.

Mr Achuba was removed in office after a panel constituted to probe him over alleged misconduct submitted its report to the legislative chamber on Friday.

Matthew Kolawole, the speaker of the assembly, presided over plenary when Achuba was removed.

Edward Onoja, the running mate of Governor Yahaya Bello who seeks a second term in office, has been tipped as replacement for the former deputy governor.

Mr Onoja, according to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), will take oath of office as deputy governor on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Achuba is reported to have proclaimed himself as the authentic deputy governor of the state.

“What they have done is nothing. I am the deputy governor of Kogi State and I remain the deputy governor of Kogi State,” he was quoted by Channels Television to have said.
