Invasion: Igboho sues AGF, SSS, demands N5.5bn as damages

Popular Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho has filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the State Security Service (SSS) over the invasion of his Ibadan residence earlier in the month.

The residence located in Soka area of the Oyo State capital was raided by the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS) early July 1, 2021. The secret police, which gunned down two of his associates and arrested 12 others during the operation, later declared him wanted over arms and ammunition allegedly recovered from the one-storey building.

Filing the suit on Friday through his counsel, Yomi Alliyu (SAN), the agitator currently been detained in Benin Republic asked a Federal High Court in Ibadan to compel the AGF and the secret police to pay him the sum of N5bn for breaching the his fundamental rights in the course of the “illegal and malicious invasion of his residence.”

While demanding another N500million for repairs of his damaged building and automobiles parked in the premises, he prayed the court to compel the DSS to return funds, documents and some other items carted away from the his house with public apology published in two national dailies.

He listed them to include N2m cash, €1,000, travel documents belonging to him and his family members, gold jewellery and wristwatches, a I-Phone 12 mobile phone, Samsung mobile phone, and other items yet to be ascertained.

He also asked the court to restrain the defendants from further harassing him and causing his bank accounts to be frozen.

The court has yet to fix a date for the hearing of the case.
