Imo gov denies being attack by angry youths

Hope Uzodimma, the Imo State governor, has denied reports of him being attacked by irate youths in the state.

Social media reports claimed Mr Uzodimma escaped death when he was attacked at the weekend in Mmahu, Ohaji Egbema local government area of the state.

The report published by various news blogs excluding TODAY POLITICS, said the youths called the Imo State helmsman unprintable names during the attack.

The governor was said to have went to the area to interact with traditional rulers when the youths who learnt of his presence struck.

The report had a picture of a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) damaged and allegedly belonging to the governor who was reportedly whisked away by security personnel.

TODAY POLITICS learnt that although the governor was in the area to calm frayed nerves, over the death of some indigens said to have been killed by a vehicle belonging to an oil company operating in the area, our sources never made mention of the reported attack.

Also, the governor while reacting to the report denied such incident ever took place and advised one of the medium that published the story to pulled it down from its website.

“If you’re a credible news outlet as claimed on your profile, you should’ve verified this news before posting. Please take it down,” Uzodimma said in a tweet on Monday.

Since he assumed office as governor of the state, there have been series of fake news being circulated against his administration.

Recently, the governor was rumored to have installed an Emir in the state when a delegation of Muslims in the state paid him a courtesy visit.
