If elected president, I will fight corruption the way Buhari is fighting it – Akpabio

Presidential aspirant and Niger Delta Affairs minister, Godswill Akpabio, says he will fight corruption the way President Muhammadu Buhari is fighting the monster, if elected president.

“We must continue to fight against corruption,” Mr Akpabio said on Channels TV on Thursday evening. “Because if we allow it, corruption can kill us.

“I will continue the same way the president is doing,” he added, promising to also fight poverty which he described as the twin brother of corruption.

The minister, a former Akwa Ibom governor, joined the presidential race on Wednesday. He joins the swelling list of aspirants on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a party that promised to forgive alleged looters who join its fold.

Prior to his defection to the APC in 2018, he was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was being probed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegation of looting public funds while in office.

Since he joined the ruling party, not much have been heard about his probe again.

President Muhammadu Buhari whom Akpabio wants to replicate his style of fighting corruption is still being dragged for pardoning two former governors jailed for stealing public funds running into billions, an action that reportedly derailed the morale of anti-graft agencies in the country.
