I will deal with Daily Nigerian for exposing how I received bribe: Ganduje

Umar Ganduje, governor of Kano State, has vowed to deal with those who published series of video clips wherein he was seen receiving and stashing wads of dollars in 2018.

Daily Nigerian, an online news outlet, which published the clips, said they were recorded in 2017 and a total of $5million was received by the governor who was seen stashing the money in the pockets of his babaringa, a native attire common amongst men of northern Nigerian origin.

The medium said the funds are kickbacks from contractors handling various projects across the state. Jafar Jafar, publisher of the news portal said the publication stands by its clips which has been reviewed and certified authentic.

Mr Jafar appeared before the Kano State house of assembly which was investigating the allegations but the governor, citing immunity, intercepted with legal hindrances to halt the probe.

Speaking on the issue in an interview with BBC Hausa on Friday, the governor said those behind the clips, which he reteirated were doctored, attempted to stop his re-election for another term of four years but vowed they will not go unpunished.

“We will deal with those behind the fake videos aimed at tarnishing my image,” the governor said. “No doubt the video is fake and we are on an underground plans and investigation which we will not reveal. But I assure you the video is fake and those behind it will be put to shame.

“It is a lie and nothing of that nature ever happened. It was just a set up plan to stop me from contesting election and I have contested, they wanted to stop me from winning election and I have won. But that is not the big issue, the big one is we will deal with them,” Ganduje threatened.

Before now, he had threatened to seek redress in court but nothing in that regard has been heard of since then.
