I will bury Nigeria if Ortom is killed: Wike boasts

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers State, has threatened to bury the whole of Nigeria if his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom, is killed.

Mr Wike, who made the threat in a Saturday statement signed by his media aide Kelvin Ebiri, was reacting to the assassination attempt on the life of Ortom that failed.

The Benue helmsman, after the attack which reportedly made him ran up to a distance of one kilometer for safety while his security details engaged the attackers in a gun duel, accused herdsmen of masterminding the ambush.

Ortom did not present a tangible evidence to back up his claim, although he is at loggerheads with the  pastoralists in the state over a controversial bill that restricted them from openly marauding around the state.

“If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria,” the Rivers governor threatened. “If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the Federal Government will be held responsible and they should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria.

Mr Wike did not elaborate how he will carry out his threat, wether he will join the bandwagon by demanding the peacefully dissolution of the country like non-state actors like Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho are doing or by declaring war.

The attack on Ortom is not the first time gunmen will be attacking a state governor. Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno State, has encountered attacks on his convoy thrice, although his domain is the strong base of Boko Haram terrorists.
