I went to rest in London not for medical check-up: Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is in London to have a short rest and not to seek medical attention as relayed by his aides.

Mr Buhari who travelled last month told Nigerians through his spokesman, Garba Shehu, that he was going for medical check-up in the foreign country and will be returning on the second week of this month.

Appearing on Channels Television, Mr Shehu, claimed the president travelled based on the advise of his physicians in the country asking him to go for check-up abroad.

But in a letter he wrote to the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdullah ll Bin Al-Hussein, the president said he went for a short rest while learning of the rift at the former’s royal house.

“While here in London taking a short rest, I was profoundly disturbed to read from international news agencies of attempts to destabilise the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,” Buhari was quoted by Shehu to have wrote. “Your exemplary leadership since ascending the throne has attracted worldwide admiration.

“Relations between Nigeria and Jordan have been excellent and I thank you for the part you have played in this relationship.

‘‘Your Majesty, I am much heartened that matters have now been resolved and I pray that the Hashemite Kingdom continues to not only remain peaceful but also a major beacon of hope for the region under Your Majesty’s wise guidance,” the Nigerian leader added.
