I reconciled with Wike so PDP can take over power in 2023: Atiku

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has reconciled with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.

During the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019, the Rivers governor considered influential in the opposition party refused to back the candidacy of the Mr Abubakar widely known as Atiku.

He opted and supported his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, who did not still clinch the ticket and lost to the former number two citizen.

Addressing reporters in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Atiku, who will contest for the top job again in 2023, said he has reconciled with Mr Wike on party affairs. He said this became necessary to help their party form a united front aimed at recovering the power it lost to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015.

“Well, I came here to reconcile with the governor on party affairs and how we can ensure that there is unity and stability in the party,” the septuagenarian said. “So, that we can take over government in 2023. I believe that Nigerians can’t wait for 2023 to come, so that PDP will return.”

“I think he (Wike) is the topmost governor we have in the party. There is no doubt about that in terms of projects, youths and employment, in terms of security. Yes, we have security challenges all over the country,” he added.

He also lashed out at the President Muhammadu Buhari administration particularly on the worsening state of insecurity nationwide, promising that the PDP will tackle ills of the country when it gets back to power.

“I have never seen it (insecurity) this bad. I am 70 years plus, I have never seen it this bad in terms of security challenges, in terms of economy, in terms of unemployment. This is the worst.

“Why can’t you give us time. We will come up with our policies. We will present them to Nigerians when the time comes.

“We have done that before. Under PDP, we recorded the highest economic growth, the best foreign reserves, we reduced unemployment. You know that we can do it” he stated.
