Give us list of praises we should be singing also, Shehu Sani tells NBC on hate speech list

Shehu Sani, former lawmaker at the 8th Senate, has called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), to also make available lists of praises citizens are expected to sing in absent of dissenting views tagged as hate speech.

The NBC, had while sanctioning a radio station adjudged to have breach professional etiquette, penned down part of what constitutes breach of the revised NBC code.

One of the codes stipulate sanctioning for any broadcast station used in insulting leaders in elective positions.

The fine for hate speech was recently increased to N5million from N500,000 it was previously fixed. Critics say the move is a backdoor attempt to halt freedom of speech as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

For the former Kaduna lawmaker, they government agency should also provide list of praises citizens are expected to partake in.

“NBC has a template of what constitutes an insult; they should come out with a template of songs of praises and eulogies we should sing in the national orchestra,” Mr Sani tweeted Thursday evening.
