Ganduje Reelected Kano Governor

Umar Ganduje, incumbent governor of Kano State has been reelected for a second term in office.

Mr Ganduje, of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was declared winner of the governorship race by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday after a supplementary election was conducted in the state on Saturday.

His major challenger in the race, Abba Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second despite leading earlier in the first part of the election which started on March 9 but was declared inconclusive.

The electoral body, citing reasons for declaring the exercise inconclusive, said the number of cancelled or void votes outnumbered the margin of lead between the two major contestants.

After the supplementary election, Mr Ganduje polled 1,033,695 total votes to defeat Mr Yusuf who got a total of 1,024,713 votes. He won with a margin of 8,982 votes.

In the Saturday’s election which was conducted in 28 local government areas out of the total of 44, the governor had 45,876 votes while the PDP candidate got 10,239 votes.

The PDP has already rejected the outcome of the poll and has vowed to seek legal redress.
