Fulani Vigilante: Fani-Kayode advises Igbo on what action to take

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has advised the Igbo tribe on what action to take on the demand for the establishment of Fulani vigilante in the Southeast.

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) on Thursday requested for the formation of a vigilante group made up of youths from the Fulani tribe to join others in securing the geo-political zone.

They made the demands to the State governors of the region, hinting that the measure has already been adopted by Enugu State, one of the states in the Southeast region.

Kicking against the request, the former minister said the demand if granted will be the worst mistake the people of the area will be making.

He urged them to reject it saying it was about survival and not political.

“The biggest mistake the Igbo can make is to allow Fulani herdsmen to form their own militias and armed groups anywhere in the east,” Fani-Kayode said in a tweet late Thursday.

“This is not about politics: it is about survival. It is like allowing vicious and hungry wolves into the lamb pen. The result is predictable,” he added.

Herdsmen are alleged to be arrowheads of criminals activities in some states of the federation. Recently, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) warned the herders to steer clear of its environs should they continue perpertuating their atrocities.
