Flag to fly half mast as Buhari declares Monday armed forces work-free day

President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, has declared Monday, May 24th, 2021, work-free day for the armed forces.

The announcement made Sunday evening came moments after Mr Buhari telephoned the widow of late Army chief, Ibrahim Attahiru.

Mr Attahiru died on Friday while on an official visit to Kaduna State. The aircraft carrying him and other 10 military personnel crashed at the Kaduna International Airport in the evening.

Mr Mustapha in the statement said the president also approved the flying of the national flag at half mast for three days.

“His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria has authorized that the National Flag should be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities and official residences with effect from Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 May, 2021,” the SGF said. “This approval is to honour the memory and services of the Late Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Ibrahim Attahiru, ten senior military and service members who lost their lives in the plane crash on Friday 21 May, 2021.”
