FG orders shutdown of telco services in Zamfara, gives reason

The federal government has directed the shutdown of telecommunication services in Zamfara State over rising insecurity in the area.

The order is contained in a memo which the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) issued to managing directors of telecommunication companies.

Chief Executive Officer of the NCC Umar Danbatta, in the memo, cited pervading security situation in the state as the reason for the development.

The duration of the shutdown is two weeks starting from Friday.

“This is to enable relevant agencies carry out required activities towards addressing security challenge in the state,” the agency said. “This site shutdown is for two (2) weeks (September 03-17,2021) in the first instance. Your urgent action in this regard is required.
