The federal government has acceded to the demands of Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Dealers in Nigeria (AUFCDN) to halt food blockade to the Southern part of the country.
The body, before going on strike couple of days ago, had demanded to be compensated with N4.75billion for the lost of lives of its members and properties during the global #EndSARS protests and Shasha market chaos recently in the Oyo State.
While announcing the suspension of its industrial action in Abuja, AUFCDN President, Muhammad Tahir, said the federal government delegation, led by Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi State, has accepted all its demands.
He said the government also agreed to provide protection for its members, halt of multiple taxation and intimidation by security agencies on the roads and the ability to withdraw its services from states in case of an attack.
“All stakeholders and members of AUFCDN in our nationwide strike are glad we achieved what we wanted to achieve. Since Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello begged us on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, we agreed to call off the nationwide strike today,” Mr Tahir, quoted by The Nation, said Wednesday.
“They agreed to pay the compensation and call off multiple taxation on the federal highways and allow us to engage in our business activities peacefully nationwide,” he added.
