Fayose reacts to Magu’s suspension as EFCC chairman

Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has reacted to the suspension of Ibrahim Magu, as the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr Magu was reportedly suspended over allegations of re-looting assets recovered in the fight against corruption. He is also accused of insubordination and misconduct by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami.

Towards the end his tenure as Ekiti State governor, the EFCC boss wrote to security agencies urging them to place the then outgoing governor on its watchlists to prevent him from escaping from the shores of the nation over corruption allegations levelled against him.

Mr Fayose stepped down from power and willingly submitted himself to the anti-graft commission for questioning and subsequent trial which is currently ongoing.

Yesterday, the anti-graft czar was intercepted, arrested and detained over the corruption allegations slammed against him by Mr Malami. Today he has been suspended pending the outcome of investigation into the allegations.

For Fayose, since what goes around comes around, the disgraced police officer should be placed on watchlist to avoid him escaping. The former governor stated this in a Tuesday afternoon tweet.

“Just as Magu directed that I be placed on “Watch-list” even when I had immunity as a sitting gov, Magu too must be placed on watch-list so that he won’t run away. EFCC, DSS, Customs, Police, Immigration, Army, Navy, Air Force, others, over to you. What goes around comes around,” the former governor tweeted.
