Fani-Kayode says Magu’s travails targeted at Tinubu, Osinbajo

Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Aviation Minister, says the travails of Ibrahim Magu, the suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is targeted at two individuals.

Mr Magu arrested last Monday has been in detention on the orders of a presidential panel constituted to probe his activities since he took over the affairs of the anti-graft agency in 2015.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, accused him of re-looting recovered assets insubordination and misconduct.

Mr Fani-Kayode, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain who made the remark yesterday said the exertion being faced by Mr Magu has connection to the next presidential election.

He mentioned Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, as targets, saying the force behind Magu’s travails, which he alleged was plotted years ago, will soon get to them.

“What is happening to Magu today was planned years ago. The real target is not Magu but those he worked for and protected for the last 4 years,” the former minister said.

“He NEVER worked for Buhari. He worked for Tinubu & Osinbajo. When they finish crushing him they will move against his two godfathers,” Fani-Kayode added.

Messrs Tinubu and Osinbajo belong to the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the duo, though have not officially made it known, are reportedly nursing the ambition of succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in office.

Forces from the Northern region where Mr Buhari hails from are hell bent on retaining power in the region during the next presidential election expected to hold in 2023.

There have been clamour in some quarters that the former Lagos State governor be probed over two bullions vans which entered his residence at the eve of the 2019 presidential election. The EFCC headed by Magu continued to look the other way despite petitions calling for probe being submitted by various civil society groups.
