Ex-SGF Lawal Arraigned, Remanded In EFCC Custody

Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), was on Tuesday arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on behalf of the Federal Government filed 10 charges bordering on allegations of fraud against him.

Mr Lawal appeared in court today and pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him while he held sway as the SGF.

He was eased out of office by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 after a presidential panel headed by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, found him culpable.

At his arraignment today, the Court ordered the ex-SGF be remanded in the custody of the anti-graft agency pending the process for his bail conditions.

He is to remain there till tomorrow, Wednesday February 13 when the court will rule on his bail application.

The former official is one of the arrowheads leading the re-election campaign train of the president.
