Enugu airport repairs completion date extended to Easter 2020

The Federal Government has extended the completion date for repairs at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, located at  Enugu State.

The airport was closed down in August for repairs of infrastructural decays in its facility.

Hadi Sirika, Aviation Minister, while shutting down the only route to the outside world from the South-East region said the facilities was unbefitting of an international airport.

Mr Sirika had earlier in the month vowed to complete repairs and re-open the airport before the Yuletide season.

President Muhammadu Buhari last week approved N10billion as intervention fund for the project but the funds has not been released for commencement of work.

The minister stated this while defending the next year budget of his ministry at the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation.

He thereafter said the new date for completion of repairs at the airport will be next year Easter, a Christian festival usually celebrated annually in April of every year.

Sirika said the work would not “last beyond Easter and it would be so delivered in such a way that we will treat the Enugu problem once and for all.”
