#EndSARS: Violence looms over #DefendLagos rally to counter #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest

Violence might break out on Saturday at the Lekki tollgate Lagos State due to the decision of rival youth groups to demonstrate at the same venue same time as well as same day.

It started after majority members of the Lagos State judicial panel, set up to probe alleged police brutality and the October 20, 2020 incident, endorsed the reopening of Lekki tollgate where troops opened live rounds on peaceful demonstrators demanding extensive police reforms and the final scrapping of a brutal unit named SARS.

Some Nigerians displeased with the resolution of the panel kicked against it, vowing to take over the premises in protest against the decision. They trended the hashtag #OccupyLekkiTollGate to vent out their anger.

Omoyele Sowere, a former presidential candidate who will partake in the Saturday exercise said the scene of the alleged massacre, where dozens were killed according to Amnesty International, must remain shut until justice is served.

While that was on, Nigerians on the opposing side began trending #DefendLagos while announcing their own decision to also demonstrate at the same venue.

The rival group is also trending #DemNoBornYourPapaWell, a clear warning indicating they might resort to violence in ensuring they frustrate their counterparts.
