Rivers #EndSARS protesters defy Wike’s edict

Nigerians in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Tuesday joined their colleagues nationwide in demanding the disbandment of the now-dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

This is coming hours after the state governor, Nyesom Wike, issued an edict aimed at preventing them from demonstrating.

Mr Wike said they was no need for the protest since the government a the center has scrapped the police unit often accused of brutality, extortions, killings and violations of human rights.

But chanting ‘End SARS’ the demonstrators trooped out in large numbers and are currently marching across streets in the state capital.

They had different placards with inscriptions: ‘End Police Brutality’; NPF protect us don’t kill us; Say no to police brutality among others.

As at press time, the protest is going on smoothly with no security agencies harrassing them at the moment.
