Adamu Garba, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), who instituted legal action against Twitter, failed to show up for proceedings yesterday at the Abuja federal high court.
Mr Garba had last month sued the social network and it’s founder, Jack Dorsey, for endorsing the protest by Nigerians seeking police extensive reforms.
In his $1billion lawsuit, the politician, a former presidential aspirant of the APC, asked Mr Dorsey to pay the Nigerian government the afro-mentioned sum as damages for his action.
When the matter was called up yesterday, neither Garba nor his legal representative were present in court, says rights lawyer, Tope Akinyode.
Mr Akinyode in a Twitter post yesterday said the court has adjourned to April 22, 2021.
“BREAKING: I was at the Federal High Court today to defend Adamu Garba’a lawsuit against @jack and @Twitter. However, @adamugarba & his lawyers failed to show up in Court without given reasons & the Court has now adjourned case to 22nd April, 2021,” he tweeted.
On why he and his legal representatives were absent, Mr Garba said they got the hearing notice late and demanded for adjournment.
“Our lawyers got the notice for the hearing pretty late, so we had to request for adjournment to the case which the court graciously granted. Thus the 21st April 2021 date was set,” he tweeted yesterday.
“However, we may approach the court to request for an earlier date.
“Stay tuned. We will win this,” he added.
