Ekweremadu: Shehu Sani lists 4 safety steps public office holders should take when invited abroad

It is no longer news that Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy Senate President, was assaulted when he attended a cultural festival in Germany at the weekend.

Mr Ekweremadu was attacked by members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) for allegedly contributing to proscribe the group demanding an independent state of Biafra.

After the tussle, the leader of the secessionist group, Nnamdi Kanu, said the treatment meted out to the Enugu-born lawmaker was a far cry from what his group plan to do to other leaders from the geo-political zone.

Advising public office holders on security measures to take whenever they are invited abroad for engagement, Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, listed four points they must take to ensure their safety.

Mr Sani advised the public office holders to turn down any invitation abroad if their security is not guaranteed.

“My Advice to public office holders; Whenever you are invited abroad take the following steps; Call Abike Dabiri to verify, Call Farooq Kperogi to attest, Call the embassy to vet, Send your protocol staff to cross check; If no green light, just chill at home,” the former lawmaker said in a tweet Monday.

While Mrs Dabiri who heads Nigerians in Diaspora  Commission condemned the attack, saying the culprits have been arrested, Mr Kanu said none of the members of his group who staged the attack has been apprehended.
