DSS speaks on clash with IPOB members in Enugu

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it lost two of its officers during a clash it had with members of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday.

Members of the outlawed group were reportedly said to have gathered in a school to hold their meeting when the secret police stormed the Emene area of Enugu State, in a bid to thwart them from gathering.

About twenty one members of IPOB were reportedly killed which forced others to reinforce and retaliate.

In a Sunday statement by Peter Afunanya, the DSS said its patrol van which had officers inside was attacked by the seccessionist group.

Mr Afunanya said the DSS lost two officers during the unprovoked attack while condoling with families of the deceased.

“The DSS wishes to inform the public that its patrol team was, today (Sunday), attacked in Emene, Enugu State by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra,” he said.

“The service lost two personnel in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team,” Afunanya adding while saying measures have been put in place to fish out the perpetrators.
