The embattled national chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole, has said he is still in charge of the party despite a court order suspending him from office.
A federal High Court in Abuja had on Wednesday ordered that Mr Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, should step aside pending the determination of the suit challenging his continued stay in office after being suspended at the ward level of the party.
The court also restrained him access to the party’s secretariat and from parading himself as an official of the ruling party.
But reacting to the development, the former governor through his media aide, Simon Ibegbulem, disclosed that he had already approached an appellate court to void his suspension from the party, saying he is still in charge.
“Our legal department is studying the matter and we have filed for a stay of execution and appealed the ruling. With those processes Oshiomhole remains the national chairman of the party,” Ibegbulem said in a report of the Guardian Newspapers.
Meanwhile, armed police officers are said to have taken over the premises of the national headquarters of the party since the court order was made.
As at press time, the force personnel dispatched to the APC secretariat are still on duty in a bid to prevent the embattled chairman from gaining access into the premises.
