Despite billions spent on renovation, National Assembly roof leaks during rainfall

The roof of the National Assembly leaked on Tuesday while it rained on Tuesday despite billions spent for its renovation in 2019.

The development left many astonished as the main lobby of the legislative complex between both chambers and the press centre where journalists seat to monitor plenary was also affected.

Cleaners struggled to clean up the wet floor at the parliament President Muhammadu Buhari approved N37billion for its renovation in 2019.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, who justified the allocation said it was because there has been no major renovation of the complex for 20 years and many parts of the complex are dilapidated.

The situation did not prevent plenary from going on but it was unclear as at press time if the leaking roof was given any attention when the complex was renovated.
