Defection: Ondo lawmakers begin impeachment process against deputy governor

Lawmakers at the Ondo State House of Assembly, have began the impeachment process to oust the deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi.

The lawmakers who resumed from a month recess today began the process expected to oust Mr Ajayi for recently dumping the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The house which has 23 members and 14 members have signed the two page sheets where 7 petitions were lodged against him. The remaining 9 members are said to be loyal to the deputy governor and have distanced themselves from the plot which constitutionally needs the endorsement of at least 16 members.

The deputy governor, who has approached the court to stop the plot against him, pitched his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly eyeing the seat of his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu, the state governor.

Mr Akeredolu is also interested in returning to the office in the upcoming governorship election slated for October 10.
