Declare bandits federal civil servants since you can’t brand them terrorists – Shehu Sani tells Buhari regime

Shehu Sani, former federal lawmaker has called on the Buhari administration to declare bandits federal civil servants since it is opposed to branding the extremists as terrorists.

The regime of President Muhammadu Buhari has repeatedly opposed calls, including from the National Assembly, to tag bandits particularly in Northern Nigeria as terrorists.

Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina recently said the ragtag gang who killed, steal and destroy should be called criminals.

Mr Adesina said they should not be called terrorists because they are not seeking the dissolution of the country but were just enterprising like Governor Nasir El-rufai asserted to.

Mr Sani making the call on Monday said bandits were killing residents regardless of religion and deserve proscription which popular Islamic cleric Sheik Ahmad Gumi said would make their atrocities lucrative.

“They killed Muslim worshipers in their mosques in Niger and Katsina state; they killed Christians in their Churches in Kaduna state;” the senator said on Twitter, jeering that, “if the Government doesn’t want to declare them terrorists,it should declare them federal civil servants.”
