The federal government says it will soon announced the deadline for linking of the National Identity Numbers (NIN) to bank accounts across financial institutions.
Communications Minister Isa Pantami made this known yesterday while speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
This is coming days after he described Bank Verification Number (BVN), a policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to checkmate illicit funds, as illegitimate that will soon be replaced with NIN.
A similar directive for telephone numbers to be linked to NIN is still ongoing amidst criticism by Nigerians that such a policy should not be implemented at this time to avoid overcrowding which can spread the Coronavirus disease the country was still battling with.
