Davido visits IGP, denies joining #EndSARS protest

Davido Adeleke, popular Nigerian musician, paid a visit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu, today in Abuja.

This is after he joined youths in the streets of Abuja to demand an end to the brutal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He confirmed this in a Sunday tweet he posted.

“Amidst it all. We must not forget the reasons we are protesting, we must not forget the peaceful manner of the protests and we must most certainly not back down until our demands are met! Sars ending is a great start but the task is far from completed!” Mr Adeleke wrote, attaching photos of himself at the scene.

But when he visited the police chief today, Davido, as he is widely called, denied joining demonstration. He said he visited for close door meeting.

“How can you come here for close door meeting when you were protesting..?” a voice, probably that of Mr Adamu was heard asking the musician in a video clip currently trending on social media.

“I didn’t protest, I did not protest,” Davido said in response to the police boss who declined his meeting, accusing him of already taking sides with the protesters.

When probed further, he said he went to identify with his fans who were demonstrating.

By his denial, he joins a list of celebrities that have compromised since the campaign demanding the disbandment of SARS started.

First on the list is Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley who backtracked at the eleventh hour. He took the decision after brokering a meeting with the police.
