COVID-19: Why Buhari doesn’t wear face mask – Lauretta Onochie

Lauretta Onochie, the social media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, has revealed why her principal does not wear face mask.

Mr Buhari has not been publicly seen wearing a mask since the pandemic broke out in the country in February. One of the preventive measures recommended by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to curb the spread of the deadly virus is that citizens should wear mask when going out of their homes.

During his last broadcast to Nigerians, the president ordered the compulsory use of face mask, saying defaulting members of the public will have to face the law when caught.

However, Buhari who has been receiving visitors at his place of abode has not been seen wearing a mask, although he does observes social distancing, another recommended preventive measure.

After every official meeting, the question on most lips of Nigerians on social media was why their leader has refused to wear face mask, some where asking if his body resists the deadly virus even when exposed to it.

Defending her principal, Onochie said the president does not wear mask because he is in a safe environment.

“PRES @MBuhari IS NOT BREAKING RULES! Expert Medical Protocol is that if you are in your safe environment, you dont need to wear a mask,” she said on Twitter Saturday morning.

“Those visiting you MUST wear masks to ensure they leave no droplets in your environment.

“Wearing of masks is mostly to protect people around us,” Onochie added.
