Umar Ganduje, the governor of Kano State, has relaxed the lockdown imposed on the state by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Buhari had on Monday ordered the total lockdown of the state to prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease in the northwest state.
Although he pleaded with the president to relax the lockdown as residents were already being affected economically, TODAY POLITICS, could not independently confirm if the president gave him the go ahead nod.
Announcing the relaxation, the governor said only supermarkets whose names will be announced on local radio stations are allowed to open for business.
Ganduje in a statewide broadcast Saturday evening said only Yankaba Market where perishable items are sold would be allowed to operate on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.
He added that the two days will henceforth become lockdown-free days.
The state whose number of pandemic disease in its domain astronomically increased in recent weeks, is now the second most affected states after Lagos state.
