COVID-19 cases now 36 as Nigeria records first casualty

The Coronavirus disease cases in Nigeria is now 36 in numbers with the addition of five new cases and the announcement of the first casualty since the pandemic came into the country last month.

The Federal Ministry of Health announced the new cases this morning in a statement.

Out of the 36 cases, 33 are active cases while 2 has been discharged on account of testing negative while 1 death has been recorded.

Currently, Lagos has the highest number with 25 case while Abuja, the nation’s capital trail behind with 6 cases followed by Ogun which has 2 cases.

Ekiti, Oyo and Edo states has one confirmed case each.

“The first death is a 67 year old male who returned home following medical treatment in UK,” the statement read

“He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy,” it added.

Meanwhile, a former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has revealed the identity of the deceased saying he was a former Managing Director of PPMC-NNPC named Alhaji Suleiman Achimugu.

Mr Sani made the revelation in a tweet on Monday and called on the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, to provide further clarifications on the cause of the death.
