Abia State has taken the lead in the latest daily figure of Coronavirus disease statistics released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The disease agency announced the confirmation of 260 new cases Sunday evening, the Southeast state came first with 67 new cases. Before now, Lagos has always been in the lead of daily figures since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country last February, it ceded the position twice to Kano state which is currently the second most affected state nationwide.
Abia currently has recorded 76 cases of the pandemic in the state.
Also, in the last 24 hours, 133 patients recovered from the deadly virus while 12 deaths occurred nationwide within the stipulated time.
The new figure brings the total number of confirmed cases to 12486 out of which 3959 cases have been discharged with 354 deaths recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The 260 new cases are reported from 19 states- Abia(67), FCT(40), Lagos(38), Ogun(19), Gombe(16), Edo(14), Imo(9), Kwara(8), Katsina(8), Nasarawa(8), Borno(8), Kaduna(6), Bauchi(5), Ekiti(4), Niger(2), Ondo(2), Plateau(2), Kano(2) and Sokoto(2).
The disease agency also apologised for erring in its report yesterday with regards to cases in Jigawa state.
Yesterday, we erroneously reported 7 new cases in Jigawa. Following further review, we can confirm that these were repeat tests for previously confirmed cases

While 76,802 samples have so far been tested, 8,173 are currently active cases nationwide.
