Court shifts judgement on Ayade’s defection to April

Judgement in the suit challenging the defection of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has been rescheduled.

The federal high court sitting in Abuja had earlier fixed March 25 to deliver judgement in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last year, praying for the ousting of Mr Ayade and his deputy, Ivara Esu.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo had earlier in the week sacked 20 federal and state lawmakers from the state for dumping the platform they were elected on.

He said having defected from the PDP to the All Progressive Congress (APC) they ought to have their seats declared vacant.

The Whistler reports that the cause list before the judge bore a new date, signalling postponement of the judgement.

The news medium said the court will now deliver its verdict on April 6, 2022 and no reason was given for the postponement.
