Chiwetalu Agu flown to Abuja as SSS bars family visitation

Chiwetalu Agu, embattled Nollywood actor, who was assaulted by soldiers in Onitsha Anambra State has been flown to the headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS).

A relative of Mr Agu who preferred anonymity told Punch Newspapers that the secret police known for repressing and intimidating dissenting voice also refused to allow family members and lawyers of the celebrated thespian to see him.

“We spent two days trying to ascertain his whereabouts. We were later informed that he was moved to Enugu and then Abuja,” the relation said. “We heard that the idea is to move him away from the South-East. We have made efforts to see him, but the DSS has not granted us access. Even the lawyers have not been allowed to reach him.”

Agu’s ordeal began when he embarked on a charitable mission at Upper Iweka area of Anambra State. He wore an apparel traceable to Biafra agitators.

After assaulting and arresting him, the Nigerian Army which picked him up accused him of inciting and soliciting support for the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).

The actor pushed back the accusation while explaining the attire he wore, distancing it from Biafra and Eastern Security Network ESN) the paramilitary arm of the separatist group before he was handed over to the self-styled Department of State Services (DSS).
