Buhari’s aide, Onochie, says campaign against FSARS led by internet fraudsters

Lauretta Onochie, the media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, says recent campaigns against the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) are led by internet fraudsters.

Last week, operatives of the FSARS killed a man in Delta State, a development that resuscitated calls for the disbandment of the security outfit.

Nigerians, including Yemi Osinbajo, vice president, joined in the protest which is still gaining momentum.

In her reaction, Ms Onochie who alleged that internet fraudsters were behind the protest, said although there are few bad eggs in the security outfit as also found in other professions, it was not sufficient enough to disband it.

“I have no doubt that there are some staff of SARS who are unprofessional in their dealings with d public, same way we have unprofessionalism in d Army, Mainstream Police, Customs, Civil Service, Public Service, traders, Lawyers, Doctors, journalists, teachers, pastors, etc,” She said in a statement yesterday.

“But what is going on now, is a COORDINATED ATTACK BY CYBER CRIMINALS joined by UNSUSPECTING INNOCENT CITIZENS.

“This is not the first time. We must stand by our national institutions while working to improve their effectiveness. Thats what patriotism is about. NO SENTIMENTS,” the presidential aide said.
