President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in six national commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the State House before the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting held virtually.

Those sworn in are Mohammed Haruna (Niger), May Agbamuche-Mbu (Delta), Ukaegbu Nnamdi (Abia), Abubakar Alkali (Adamawa), Rhoda Gumus (Bayelsa) and Sam Olumekun (Ondo).

Ms Gumus was identified as a card-carrying member of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) but the Nigerian Senate went ahead and confirmed her nomination for the position which requires a non-partisan individual.
