Buhari seeks Senate’s approval of 10bn for Kogi

President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Nigerian Senate seeking its approval of N10 billion for Kogi State.

In a letter read at the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the money would be used by the state government to settle local debts it incurred as a result of the projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government.

The president said his request was based on the resolution passed by the eighth Senate to refund the money spent by state governments on projects.

Mr Lawan mandated the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts to handle the request and report back within two Weeks.

The request is coming a month to the scheduled date for the governorship election wherein the state governor, Yahaya Bello, is seeking another term in office.

The governorship election is billed for November 16, the same day residents of Bayelsa State will be choosing who will govern them for the next four years.
