Buhari says he’s building rail to Niger Republic because of his family members there

President Muhammadu Buhari says he is building railway to Niger Republic because he has family members in the neighboring West African country.

Mr Buhari stated this while granting an interview, aired on Thursday, to Arise Television in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

“I have cousins, family members, etc., in Niger Republic. I shouldn’t just cut them off,” the Nigerian leader said.

He also cited job creation and transportation of oil from the neighbouring country to Nigeria as his reason for executing the $1.9 billion standard gauge rail project which economic analysts have described as a wasteful investment.
