Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina has described critics of the incumbent administration as noise makers whom his principal doesn’t care about.
Mr Adesina gave the description in his latest article posted on his Facebook page Thursday night.
At the inception of this regime in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari had virtually blamed ills he claimed to have met on the then ousted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which had been in charge since the return to democracy in 1999.
Heaping much of the blames ranging from insecurity, corruption to economic woes that has befallen the country since he took over on the Jonathan administration, the president spent greater part of his first term junketing around the world.
When it was time to seeking re-election in 2019, he included the administration of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, particularly as regards to power infrastructure in the blame game.
While asking Nigerians to re-elect him for another and final term of four years, he also blamed Bukola Saraki, president of the 8th Senate, as being the clog in the wheel of progress during his first term.
Since he won his second tenure, Nigerians have had their own share of the blame. They have been blamed for the country’s worsening corruption status, economic woes, rising unemployment and most recently, the decision of Twitter to site its African headquarters in Ghana.
Mr Adesina in his article said his principal does not listen or pay attention to critics and true to type, the president demonstrated this when he sided with embattled Minister Isa Pantami, ignoring public outcry by Nigerians who demanded the immediate removal of the communications chief over past extremist views.
“Some Nigerians have made it a pastime to pester and attempt to browbeat the President. I laugh. They don’t know the person they are dealing with,” said the president’s spokesman who earlier in the year pleaded with Nigerians to tune down criticism and praise his principal. “A cool customer. Never flustered, harried or disconcerted.”
“He simply focuses on what he is doing, ignoring the noise of the market. Kick like a dying horse, shout yourselves hoarse, curse, murmur like a ghost, hiss like a snake, President Buhari keeps his eyes on the ball. It’s a big lesson to learn from him. When you are in the market, ignore the din, and concentrate on the person you are transacting business with,” he added.
