Nnamdi Kanu: SSS, Police beat up, arrest Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, has been assaulted by security agencies.

Mr Sowore had stormed the federal high court in Abuja where the trial of extradited leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, is expected to hold.

His media outlet was among anti-government critics barred from accessing the court premises.

Just like other journalists who were barred, but were found around the premises, the politician who identified with supporters of the seccessionist was beaten up, according to his lawyer, Inibehe Effiong.

Mr Effiong said his client was arrested after being manhandled by the agents of the State Security Service (SSS) and the police.

He did not disclose the reason for the torture meted out to the controversial activist.

“Omoyele Sowore has just been beaten up and arrested by SSS and Nigeria Police officers far away from the entrance of the Federal High Court in Abuja where he went to cover and monitor the trial of Nnamdi Kanu,” his lawyer said on social media. “They also seized his camera.

“Nigeria is under a full dictatorship. Buhari has murdered democracy. We demand his immediate release. It is not a crime for a citizen and a reporter to stand in a public place,” he added.
