NDLEA files drug trafficking charges against Abba Kyari, 6 others

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has filed drug trafficking related charges against suspended police officer, Abba Kyari and his accomplices.

The legal action by the anti-drug agency comes hours after the federal government through Attorney General of the Federation and Justice Minister Abubakar Malami approved the extradition process of Mr Kyari wanted in the United States for fraud.

The NDLEA suit marked FHC/ABJ/57/2022 and filed before a federal high court in Abuja has the detained celebrated cop and four of his men at the police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) as defendants.

Two other suspected drug traffickers (Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne) picked up at the Enugu International Airport were also listed as co-defendants.

Filing the charges through its legal directorate led by Joseph Sunday, the NDLEA accused Kyari of conspiracy, obstruction, dealing in Cocaine worth 17.55 kilograms and unlawfully tampering with 21.25kg worth of Cocaine.

The duo of Umeibe and Ezenwanne were accused of conspiring with others at large, to import 21.35kg of Cocaine into the country.
