FG bans Twitter operations as Facebook deletes Buhari’s ‘genocidal’ post

The federal government has banned Twitter in the country obviously for deleting the genocidal tweet of President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is contained in a statement signed by Segun Adeyemi on behalf of Lai Mohammed, Information Minister on Friday.

Mr Mohammed also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to commence immediate licensing of all social media platforms in the country.

The ban comes moments after TODAY POLITICS observed that the controversial remarks of the President has also been deleted by Facebook.

The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

Minister said the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
