APC disqualifies Obaseki, 2 others from Edo primary, clears 3

Information reaching the desk of TODAY POLITICS has it that Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State has been disqualified from participating in the coming primary of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Mr Obaseki, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the ruling, has been edged out by the screening committee after he was screened.

Six aspirants indicated interest for the party’s ticket but the governor and two others; Matthew Iduoriyekemwen and Chris Ogiemwonyi were disqualified while Osagie Ize-iyamu, who enjoys the support of Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of the ruling party scaled the screening.

Two other aspirants cleared but are expected to slug it out in the June 22 exercise are Pius Odubu and Osaro Obazee.

Although, the reason for his disqualification has not been made public, he is said to be having discrepancies in his academic credentials.

The governorship election is slated for September 19.
