Bayelsa guber: Diri heads to Appeal Court after sack by tribunal

Duoye Diri, governor of Bayelsa State, says he will appeal the judgement of the state election tribunal.

The tribunal while nullifying the election that produced the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration, ordered that a fresh poll be conducted within the next 90 days.

Its decision to nullify the gubernatorial election was hinged on the unlawful exclusion of Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement by the acting Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa State Government, Daniel Alabrah, the governor said he has instructed his lawyers to appeal the verdict.

We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice,” the Bayelsa helmsman said.

“This is a court of first instance and I have instructed our lawyers to file an appeal. We have a right of appeal even up to the Supreme Court,” he added.
