Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have staged a solidarity protest with striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The protest began Tuesday morning in Ikeja, Lagos State capital, while security agencies on ground watched to prevent breakdown of law and order.
Converging under the bridge axis, the protesters said they are heading to the state government house where they will be addressed by officials.
The crowd bore placards with inscriptions appealing to the government to meet the demands of ASUU, cut cost of governance, halt importations of fuels and reviving dead refineries, among others.
The academic body had earlier in the year down tools to press home their demand for the release of revitalisation funds for universities; renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement; release of earned allowances for university lecturers and the deployment of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution platform for the payment of salaries and allowances of university lecturers.
