The speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Collins Chiji, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr Chiji while announcing his defection during plenary on Tuesday defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Seven other lawmakers from the floor of the house also defected to the ruling party.
Aside the speaker, other defectors are: Uche Ogbuagu (Ikeduru), Dominic Ezerioha (Oru West) Chigozie Nwaneri(Oru East), Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri West), Kennedy Ibe (Obowo) Onyemaechi Njoku (Ihitte/Uboma), and Eddy Obinna (Aboh Mbaise).
With the new development, the ruling party now has 18 lawmakers while the PDP has 8.
Uju Onwudiwe (Njaba), who was declared the winner of the supplementary election held Saturday, on Action Alliance platform, is yet to be sworn-in by the speaker.
