Popular Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu assaulted by soldiers for adorning an outfit traceable to the colors of Biafran flags has been released.
The celebrated thespian who was taken into custody on Thursday regained his freedom Friday.
“Uncle Chinwetaluagu has been released,” Chizzy Alichi, a popular actress announced on Instagram. “He is safe and sound. All thanks to God and everyone that contributed one way or the other.”
Mr Agu who was on a charity mission at Upper Iweka area of Onitsha in Anambra State was assaulted and arrested by military personnel who later accused him of canvassing support for the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB).
The maltreatment of the actor has been widely condemned by Nigerians, including Human Rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who beckoned on the Army authorities to apologize and compensate the brutalised victim.
